Toyota has officially debuted the TRD Pro Series of trucks this morning at the McCormick Place in Chicago. Instead of being out in the frigid snow, V.P. of Toyota Marketing, Jack Hollis introduced the TRD Pro Tundra, 4Runner and Tacoma live in front of the media in a special built indoor off-road course. The TRD Pro was inspired by Toyota’s rich off-road motorsports heritage with the great Ivan “Ironman” Stewart. The TRD Pro series trucks will be offered on the 4×4 models in three exterior colors which includes an exclusive “Inferno” red-orange color. Each of the trucks will sport special TRD Pro suspension gear including beefy TRD Bilstein shocks with aux reservoirs, springs, a special skid plate, tuned TRD exhaust, specific retro “TOYOTA” badging on the grille, interior accessories and black TRD wheels. The Tundra TRD Pro has the most features to offer:
- TRD-tuned springs with 2” lift for the front of the vehicle
- Decreased spring rate to improve ride quality over harsh terrain
- All-black 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin ORP tires
- TRD dual exhaust system
- TRD PRO quarter panel bed stamping
- Unique interior seat color with red stitching
- Unique instrument panel ornament insert
Sadly the TRD Supercharger did not make it on the standard list of feature for these trucks. At least the Tundra TRD Pro should have featured it as it would have been a very capable Ford Raptor SVT-fighter. On a brighter note, the TRD Supercharger is still available as an accessory so one could still build their ultimate Toyota truck. Perhaps Toyota will release a limited edition “TRD Pro Supercharged” version of each truck in time for their third quarter 2014 sale date? Despite its luxury price, a Land Cruiser TRD Pro would have been interesting. It’s not too late Toyota (most specifically the Tundra TRD Pro Supercharged).
