Lexus quietly announces the 2015 Lexus RX with new features. The 3rd Generation RX enters its sixth year of production with some welcome features for both the RX 350 & RX 450h. Here they are below:
2015 RX 450h
- Standard Display Audio with seven-inch screen for all models
- Available Luxury Package offers a 19-inch triple-split five-spoke wheel with light gray paint and machined finish
- Available HID and LED headlamps paired with LED foglamps
- Available navigation system features updated Remote Touch interface knob for improved ergonomics
2015 RX 350
- Standard Display Audio with seven-inch screen for all models
- Available F SPORT offers rich Cabernet leather-trimmed interior
- Available Premium and Luxury Packages offer a triple-split five-spoke wheel with light gray paint and machined finish
- Available HID and LED headlamps paired with LED foglamps
- Available navigation system features updated Remote Touch interface knob for improved ergonomics
Also new on the 2015 RX, Siri® Eyes Free Mode will be standard on all models. Now all iPhone 4, 5 and 5S users will be able to pair up Siri to their Lexus hands free system and be able to utilize all the handy voice commands at the touch of a button.
So why the 2015 RX model early on in 2014? It’s easy, the 3rd Generation RX was first available for sale as a 2010 model in February 2009. An updated refresh with the new spindle grille came around for Geneva in March 2012 as a 2013 model. It’s uncertain how long the 3rd Generation RX will continue onto but if it follows the current Lexus lifecycle trend of 7 to 8 years which includes at least two refreshes, we probably will see a new 4th Generation RX in the near future.
As for the new features, they are great additions but some of the features should be standard. I honestly think navigation should be standard issue in all Lexus models, especially with the subscription free XM Nav Traffic & Weather now available on the 2014 IS and CT. Since headlamp technology advanced in recent years, HID headlamps should at least be standard feature on all Lexus models. The 2014 Corolla comes standard with LED headlamps. It’s welcoming to see the addition of Cabernet leather trim for the RX 350 F SPORT model, but we should also have the F SPORT model on the RX 450h as well. RX 450h F SPORT is offered in all the major global markets except for North America, why not offer it in the largest Lexus market in the world?
